He Said: Too much use of "honey" going around

What's the proper etiquette and use of the word "honey?" The way I see it, you can use the word "Honey" if you're a girl talking to another girl... and in college. It's fine to use if you mix it with some babytalk when ooo-ing and ah-ing over some newborn. You're in clear waters if you're over the age of 65 and talking to someone a third of your age. And in some societies, I guess you could get away with it if you profess to be a fan of that awful Mariah Carey movie. It's fine by me to throw out a "Honey" if you're a prostitute trying to solicit business on a slow and rainy Saturday afternoon. I mean, not that I'd know. I saw it in the movies once. One scenario in which I never want to hear the word "Honey" is during a job interview or in a phone message. And yet, I got hammered with both earlier today. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a guy and GUYS by nature love being called honey by any woman -- even when she's your 85 yr old grandmother. But to be called "honey" by some random chick I've never met and who is at least half a dozen years younger gave me pause. I wasn't offended or anything. (In fact, it takes a LOT to offend me. I've seen a lot, heard even more and there isn't much you could probably do or say that would make me blush. Go ahead - try.) If anything, I was amused... because the HONEY in this situation was most definitely the faceless broad rambling on and filling up my voice mail about some job interview I had already said I wasn't interested in. But I digress...
